Ha! At last, a really good application for the Square variation. One gets handed a bag of tricks and sometimes you don't know what to make of them until you have an happy accident or find where it's use has been documented.

It's because dA puts an emoticon in where there shouldn't be one. Just change the gradient to one of your own and you'll be fine.
